Project Goal:

To automate a series of engineering steps which determine the best product design. The previous process would require an engineer to modify a group of assembly constraints, record the value in Excel, repeat the data recording steps until all were saved in Excel, then format the data in Excel and generate a chart. When any changes were made to the assembly or its parts the process would have to be repeated.

 

 

Time Savings:

Previous process = 60 minutes per change

Automation = 1 minute per change

Changes per project = 10

 

 

ROI:

9.84 hours per project
(additional time has also be saved by eliminating data entry errors and creating a company standard)

The user can see how changes will affect the final result in a matter of minutes.

  Surface area of parts in an assembly (CAD Programming)


 

 

 

 

 

Project Goal:

To automatically measure the surface area of all parts in an assembly based on the color of the part/feature/face. The surface area will then be used to determine how much protective coating is needed to cover the assembly. This is not a standard tool supplied with CAD programs. Because the tools doesn't exist the user had two options:
1. manually measure the surface area of each face of each part in an assembly.
2. if the assembly is to large then the manual process is too time consuming and the surface area is estimated, causing manufacturing problems because to much or to little material is accounted for.

 

 

Time Savings:

Previous process = To time consuming

Automation = 10 seconds to determine surface area of a 100 part assembly

 

 

ROI/Advantages:

An exact material quantity for manufacturing

Inventory is now accurate

Orders are processed faster because an exact application time is determined

 

 

  Export pipe bending data (CAD Programming)


 

 

 

Project Goal:

To export information about a piece of pipe to a CNC program, including each bend(bend radius, bend angle, and bend rotation), OD, ID, material, PartNumber, and straight length

 

 

Time Savings:

Previous process = 15 minutes

Automation = 5 seconds

 

 

ROI:

A savings of almost 15 minutes per part

The user doesn't have to enter data into CNC program

Errors are elimitated when determining straight lenght
